Russia is upgrading its only rail link to North Korea with new X-ray scanners for large cargo, a move the manufacturer described as part of efforts to improve detection of explosives and drugs amid growing commercial exchanges between the two sides.

The Moscow-based firm Diagnostika-M supplied two TS-SCAN 100100 introscope machines to the federal agency Rosgranstroy for the Khasan railway station, located across the Tumen River from the DPRK, according to its Jan. 13 release. 

Rosgranstroy oversees the Khasan rail crossing, along with a new vehicle bridge and checkpoint under construction next to it.
