North Korea has enjoyed favorable weather to start the planting season for winter crops, a U.N. report has found, though abundant rainfall in October and September may have caused losses during the autumn harvest.

The DPRK finished harvesting staple crops like rice and maize alongside small amounts of soybeans, potatoes, millet and sorghum at the end of last month, the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) stated in a report this week, noting that seasonal rains helped planting operations and crop development.

These crops account for about 90% of North Korea’s total annual production, the FAO said.
