Both North and South Korea endorsed a recent U.N. resolution backing Palestine’s bid to become a full member state, a rare display of political alignment between the archrivals that contrasted with U.S. opposition.

The record of Friday’s vote on the resolution shows that the two Koreas were among the 143 member states who voted in favor of the U.N. General Assembly (UNGA) resolution recommending that the Security Council “positively reconsider” full membership for Palestine, which has been a non-member observer state since 2012.

Nine countries, including the U.S. and Israel, voted against the resolution, while 25 member states abstained.
