Nonprofits urge UN to update ‘historic’ report on North Korea human rights abuse

Activists say new Commission of Inquiry report needed to address issues under Kim Jong Un and draw attention to problem

A global coalition of civil society groups has called on the U.N. to update a “groundbreaking” investigation into widespread North Korean human rights abuses, stressing the need for renewed attention on the issue amid little progress in improving the situation over the last decade.

Twenty groups operating out of more than 100 countries urged the U.N. Human Rights Council to mandate a “comprehensive” update to the 2014 Commission of Inquiry (COI) report, speaking on the sidelines of the ongoing council session in Geneva.
