North Korea likely to carry out ‘provocations’ around US and ROK elections: NIS

North Korea is likely to carry out “military and cyber provocations” next year to coincide with elections in the U.S. and South Korea, Seoul’s spy agency warned Thursday.

In a press release, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) said it based its assessment on historical patterns of DPRK action around ROK elections and the country’s heightened military posture.

“North Korea is likely to engage in unexpected military and cyber provocations near the fluctuating geopolitical situation in 2024,” the intelligence agency said.

Seoul’s defense minister Shin Won-sik reportedlyechoed the NIS statements in remarks to the press on Friday, stating that
