A U.S. court has ruled that some $2.2 million of North Korean funds seized from a Russian bank must be paid to the parents of Otto Warmbier, the American student who died shortly after his release from a lengthy detention in the DPRK.

The Southern District of New York approved Cindy and Fred Warmbier’s request to acquire the funds in line with a 2018 ruling that North Korea owes the Warmbiers over $500 million dollars in damages.
