The U.S., South Korea and Japan announced plans on Saturday to start sharing real-time data about North Korean missile launches before the end of the year, with one expert noting that successful implementation requires a system that is not vulnerable to the ups and downs of South Korea-Japan relations.

Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin and his South Korean and Japanese counterparts Lee Jong-sup and Yasukazu Hamada made the announcement following a trilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, the U.S. Department of Defense stated in a press release.
