South Korea to host high-level nonproliferation talks, multilateral WMD drills

North Korea’s ‘nuclear and missile provocations’ to be major focus at Proliferation Security Initiative, Seoul says

South Korea will host an international arms control and anti-proliferation meeting next week, aiming to demonstrate “advanced counter-proliferation capabilities” and strengthen cooperation with like-minded countries to deter North Korean threats, Seoul’s defense ministry announced Wednesday.

The Proliferation Security Initiative’s (PSI) first high-level conference in Asia will take place on the southern island of Jeju Island from Tuesday, with the event to mark 20 years since the PSI was created to counter North Korean weapons proliferation and focus on its “nuclear and missile provocations,” according to a ministry press release.
