The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has scrapped a program created to counter Chinese espionage, opting instead for a broader approach aimed at North Korea and other “hostile nation-states.”

Assistant Attorney General Matthew Olsen announced the move during a speech at George Mason University on Wednesday, saying the DOJ has canceled the Trump-era China Initiative.

In its place, he said the DOJ is launching the Strategy for Countering Nation-State Threats, which he described as a “comprehensive approach” to issues such as transnational repression, foreign malign influence, cyber threats and espionage from various countries.
