North Korea reports zero COVID cases in wake of mass events in Pyongyang

DPRK says it tested 1,395 additional people during two-week period coinciding with party plenum, New Year’s Eve concert

North Korea has still officially recorded no positive cases of COVID-19, according to the U.N. health agency, even as thousands gathered in the capital around the New Year.

Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that the DPRK tested an additional 1,395 people from Dec. 24 to Jan. 6, bringing the total number of tests administered in the country to 51,336. It is not possible to independently verify COVID-19 figures that North Korea provides to the WHO.
