Formally ending the Korean War would be ‘premature,’ Pyongyang says

DPRK vice foreign minister says US must withdraw ‘hostile policy’ to establish peace on the Korean Peninsula

North Korea said a peace treaty formally ending the Korean War would be “premature” and only worsen tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

North Korea’s state-run Korean Central News Agency carried the remarks from vice foreign minister Ri Thae Song on Friday, who said the U.S. must withdraw its “hostile policy” to realize peace on the Korean Peninsula.

“The true situation proves that the adoption of the declaration of the termination of the war is something premature,” Ri said, suggesting that a peace treaty might be “misused as a smokescreen” to cover up the U.S.’ “hostile policy.”

“Nothing will change as
