New South Korean bill calls for more public info on North Korean cyberattacks

The bill surfaces just days after a Seoul lawmaker argued with the NIS over whether North Koreans hacked Pfizer

South Korean lawmakers proposed a new bill that would force the country’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) to share more information related to North Korean cyberattacks with government agencies.

On Feb. 18, 15 lawmakers from the conservative People’s Power Party backed the “North Korean hacking information sharing law,” which would expand access to information on cyberthreats from the National Assembly’s Intelligence Committee to a broader range of government agencies and even the public.

The language of the bill does not specifically mention North Korea, but lawmaker Ha Tae-keung cited Pyongyang’s recent alleged hacking attacks on domestic pharmaceutical and cryptocurrencycompanies as
