A South Korean organization aiming to provide clean drinking water was granted the first sanctions exemption by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) sanctions committee for the DPRK this year.

According to the United Nations (U.N.), the 1718 Sanctions Committee granted a waiver to the South Korean project on Friday. The exemption has been effective since Jan. 22 and will expire on Oct. 22 this year.

The U.N. website did not reveal further details about the organization’s name or the project’s size.

The organization has requested that this information be kept confidential, South Korea’s unification ministry told NK News.
