U.S. Treasury imposes designations over North Korea human rights abuses

Military police, construction sector, and two overseas diplomats targeted

The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced new designations against North Korea for human rights violations on Thursday, targeting North Korea’s military police, construction and labor sector, along with two diplomats overseas.

According to an accompanying press release published by the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) the latest designations are in conjunction with a U.S. State Department report on Serious Human Rights Abuses and Censorship in North Korea, also published today.

The report is the third of its kind released by the U.S. Department of State and is mandated by the North Korea Sanctions and Policy Enhancement Act
