South Korean police are searching for a North Korean defector who was put on probation after attempted murder, Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency confirmed to NK News on Friday.

48-year-old North Korean defector Yoo Tae-joon broke his electronic monitoring anklet and fled a psychiatric hospital at 1536 KST on Tuesday in Naju city, South Cholla province, according to a wanted poster released Friday. 

Yoo reportedly defected to the South in 1998, but returned to the North in 2001. He then re-defected in 2002.

Police and a probation office in Gwangju Metropolitan city have reportedly been searching for Yoo for three
