The U.S. Senate on Thursday passed a broad new sanctions bill targeting North Korea, Iran, and Russia by an overwhelming 97 – 2 majority.

The bill was originally aimed at punishing Russia for interference in last year’s U.S. Presidential election, though additional legislation covering Iran and North Korea was added as it made its way through the House of Representatives.

The North Korean part of the legislation was already passed by the House in May, and includes tools to cut U.S. financial assistance going to countries that buy or sell North Korean conventional weapons, as well as giving the U.S. the
