N. Korean ferry arrived in Russia with 34 safety deficiencies

Infractions include fire safety, navigation, structural issues and "life-saving appliances"

North Korea’s Mangyongbong ferry, which began running a regular route between Rason and Vladivostok in May, arrived in Russia with 34 safety deficiencies, inspection records show.

The North Korean-flagged ship has been running a weekly passenger and cargo route from the DPRK’s northeastern port to nearby Russia, but the ship was built in 1971 and, before May, had been used infrequently since the 90s.

Upon arrival in ports, ships are often inspected to assess any possible safety and environmental issues. Inspection results are published by the Tokyo MOU, the Port State Control (PSC) authority for the Asia Pacific region.
