The multi-floor additional offices for the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK are almost complete, updated photos acquired by NK News show.

Compared to October, the more recent images show the exterior of the building is nearly finished and is decorated with what looks like marble.

The building’s official English name has not yet been released by the DPRK government, and North Korean media outlets haven’t reported on the building’s construction according to the KCNA Watch data tool.

Despite one of the building’s red banners emphasizing “Pyongyang Speed” – the term first used in 1958 to commemorate the speedy reconstruction of the capital – it’s possible the construction is still behind the original schedule.

NK Pro previously reported, one of the banners indicated the construction phase was divided into three different steps, with the last one ending sometime in November this year.

As above images were taken in December, they suggest construction may continue throughout this month, or possibly even into next year.

While the building may be behind schedule, the latest satellite imagery provided by San Francisco-based Company Planet Lab indicate the top floor of the building is complete.

A North Korea expert in October told NK Pro the building is most likely to be occupied by North Korean officials working in the country’s diplomatic and legislative processes.

“As it is an ‘additional office’ I don’t think it will be occupied by top personnel like Kim Yong Nam, the President of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of North Korea,” Cheong Seong-chang, senior research fellow at the Sejong Institute, told NK Pro.
