South Korea’s Defense Ministry on Wednesday confirmed the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery will be deployed in Seongju County, Gyeongsangbuk-do Province.

The announcement came five days after the U.S. and South Korea agreed to deploy the missile defense system which will be operated by U.S. Forces Korea.

“To defend South Korea and the people against North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats … the government decided to deploy the THAAD system at Seongju” an official from the Ministry of National Defense (MND) said during a Wednesday briefing.
