South Korean Minister of Unification Hong Yong-pyo yesterday stated the necessity of cooperation between South and North Korea to prevent natural disasters, including drought. Hong pointed out the damage from drought to the whole Korean Peninsula, and mentioned possible damage in the future from the annual rainy season, called jangma. “Through forest cooperation, both sides should make forests on the Korean Peninsula, which is all connected, greener. There are unlimited projects South and North can cooperate on, such as a joint investigation on forest resources, exchanging seeds and supporting saplings,” Hong said during his keynote address at the Korea Global Forum. © Korea Risk Group.
