South Korean Minister of Unification Hong Yong-pyo suggested support for the ongoing drought in North Korea, as a way to resume negotiations during a meeting with journalists Wednesday.

The event marked Hong’s 100th day in office, and Hong expressed responsibility for current deadlock in inter-Korean relations.

“Despite difficulties both in South and North Korea under the current drought, if the North is having a more difficult time we are willing to offer the necessary support. Then we can do what is needed together,” Hong said in remarks carried by South Korean media.
