The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has warned that continued drought conditions could result in significantly worsening food security for North Koreans in a report published on Wednesday.

The update to the Global Information and Early Warning System on food and agriculture (GIEWS) includes revised crop production forecasts that show significant reductions on yields from the previous year.

“Should drought conditions persist, the food security situation is likely to deteriorate from that of the previous years, when most households were already estimated to have borderline and poor food consumption rates,” the report reads.
