News North Korea maintains muted reaction to MERS outbreakObservers see Pyongyang showing greater confidence in ability to prevent MERS spread compared to Ebola outbreak
Despite South Korea’s mounting toll of Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) infections, including nine deaths, North Korea has said little about the disease and taken no extreme measures preventing entry into the country. This contrasts starkly with its response to the Ebola outbreak late last year, when North Korea locked down its whole border for four months and imposed three-week stays in quarantine to prevent infections. A source at the Kaesong Industrial Complex, a jointly run Korean project located just over the Northern side of the border and the site of the most frequent North-South interactions, told NK Newsthat © Korea Risk Group.
