No laws to protect N.Korean workers at Kaesong: HR Watch

No evidence of human rights violations, but legal frameworks to protect Kaesong workers not in place

Human Rights Watch on Thursday said that workers in the Kaesong Industrial Complex (KIC) are not legally protected against human rights violations such as sexual harassment and poor working conditions.

According to the statement from the international human rights organization, the law governing working conditions in the complex falls well short of international standards. The workers don’t have the right to organize without hindrance, elect representatives, form independent labor unions and bargain collectively, it said.
