SEOUL — Women suffer the most in North Korea and more attention to their human rights is needed, a female defector-activist group called on Tuesday.

The New Korea Women’s Union, which consists of female North Korean defectors, held a press conference in the Korea Press Center. Several defectors told their stories, including of human trafficking and sexual violence in the North Korean military.

Lacking knowledge of the outside world and government protection, female defectors often fall victim to human trafficking after crossing the border.
