Former ambassador to Bangladesh becomes vice FM

North Korea appoints Sin Hong Chol new vice minister of foreign affairs

North Korea has appointed Sin Hong Chol a vice minister of foreign affairs, the Korean Central News Agency revealed Wednesday.

Sin, a former ambassador, became a vice minister in the DPRK’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs some time before Wednesday, when he attended a reception by Cuban Ambassador to the DPRK German Hermin Ferras Alvarez at the Cuban embassy in Pyongyang.

Sin became DPRK ambassador to Bangladesh in September 2008. He served at the North Korean embassy in Dhaka until January 2013, being replaced by current ambassador Ri Song Hyon. Little else is known of Sin’s diplomatic career.
