No apologies to win detained prisoners’ release: Kerry

Experts compare situation to USS Pueblo, say not apologizing makes sense

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said late last week that Washington will not apologize to win the release of two Americans currently detained in North Korea.

Kerry’s announcement comes after Jeffrey Fowle was set free on Tuesday, having served six months for anti-state activities after leaving a Bible at a nightclub.

The details of Fowle’s release are unknown, though the state-run Korean Central News Agency said it came following repeated requests from President Barack Obama. The U.S. has stated that it will continue to press for the release of two other Americans.
