Digital Communications & Social Media Manager
Korea Risk Group — Seoul
The role
Korea Risk Group is evolving social to the primary channel through which the public encounters our journalism. This role owns that shift. You will build the Instagram and YouTube video audiences, plus LinkedIn, X, Bluesky and Facebook/Threads audiences that feed the top of our subscription funnel, using video as the core craft.
Context you should know before applying
We publish 5-10 articles daily on NK News, NK Pro and Korea Pro. For long, a porous paywall let non-subscribers sample much of our work directly on the site. Now, social will become the main shop window. The standard of our video and visual output therefore has to rise sharply, and this role is accountable for that rise.
What you will own
Primary mandate — Instagram and YouTube
- Produce high-quality short-form video (Reels, Shorts) that tease our best journalism, podcast highlights, and field reporting, and convert viewers into trial signups.
- Build and grow the YouTube channel: clip and package podcast and interview content, write titles and descriptions for search, design thumbnails that earn the click.
- Treat these two platforms as a major part of our growth engine. Audience growth and signup conversion are how the role is measured, not post volume.
Secondary mandate
- Keep LinkedIn, Facebook, Bluesky, and X active with adapted content. These should be maintained to a competent standard; but don’t get the production effort Instagram and YouTube do.
- Film on-site with journalists when the news cycle is suitable. Take initiative to lead the social media side’s real-time news coverage, such as independently conducting vox pop and field video from Seoul streets, events and other occasions. Edit footage into publishable video.
Podcast support
- Cut and edit clips for social, upload to YouTube and Instagram, create custom thumbnails, support on recording setup.
Event promotion
- Promote Seoul Circuit, Korea Business Forum, and Breakfast Briefings across social.
- Produce post-event video and digital materials where possible.
Community and admin
- Respond to social inbound.
- Manage contractor deliverables.
- Run paid campaigns when briefed.
PR and newsletters
- Draft and send press releases; maintain the Korean media contact list quarterly.
- Track audience and subscriber data via relevant analytic platforms, and report what is working.
What you need
- Demonstrable track record producing high-quality Reels and short-form video.
- Strong video editing. Literacy with basic AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Canva
- Comfort filming and directing talent on-site.
- An instinct for what makes someone stop scrolling, and the discipline to tie that to a conversion goal.
Bonus
- Landing page design basics.
- Familiarity with Kit, Matomo, Cursor.
- Interest in or knowledge of North and South Korean affairs.
- Advanced AI tooling such as Cursor, Claude Cowork, Riverside, Iconik, Descript or others.
Reporting and level
This is an intermediate-level execution role. You will own the craft and the calendar. Content strategy and conversion targets are set with management, and you execute against them at a high standard.
Compensation
3-5M KRW monthly, depending on experience level.
Location
Seoul office, Republic of Korea.
Existing work authorization for Republic of Korea is vital for this role (ROK working holiday visas may work if you have one)
How to apply
Send the following to [email protected] before Friday, June 27, 2026
- A reel of your best short-form video. A 60-90 second montage of your strongest work, or links to 3-4 standalone pieces. We are judging hook, pacing, edit quality, and how you package a clip — not production budget. If you cannot show this, this is not the role for you.
- Your CV. Tell us which social accounts you have personally grown, and by how much. Numbers matter more than titles.
- One short answer (2-3 sentences). Look at our social accounts — NK News (@nknewsorg) and Korea Pro (@southkoreapro) on Instagram, plus our YouTube. Which account or channel is currently weakest, and what is the first thing you would change
Events and Partnerships Manager (Part-time)
Korea Risk Group — Seoul
The role
Own Korea Risk Group’s event programme end-to-end — Seoul Circuit, Korea Business Forum, and NK Pro Breakfast Briefings — and turn it into a pipeline that brings new professionals into contact with our products. This is a relationship and business-development role, not an admin one.
Shape of the job
Roughly 2.5 days a week on average, with flexible scheduling between events. The catch: event nights and mornings are fixed and non-negotiable and require in-person attendance. For that reason this role is Seoul-based or commutable — most of the week flexes, the events do not.
Logistics (venue, AV, seating, catering) sit with a dedicated colleague. Your job is focusing on: who is in the room, who speaks, and who we meet.
What you will own
Speakers
- Source, invite, and manage speakers end-to-end, including honorarium arrangements.
- Sole owner of the Seoul Circuit and Korea Business Forum speaker process. Support the team on Breakfast Briefing speakers.
Pipeline and leads
- Generate at least four qualified new leads per KBF cycle, and own outreach and ongoing communication with them.
- Identify and pursue the attendees and partners worth bringing into our orbit — this is the part of the role that justifies it.
Attendees and outreach
- Maintain the Seoul Circuit attendee list across mail merge and Kit.
- Draft outbound LinkedIn messages for admin staff, handle inbound LinkedIn and email inquiries.
- Follow up with lapsed attendees and bring them back.
Event setup and follow-through
- Write event titles and descriptions (subject to editor review).
- Build copy for event pages and work with developers to launch invite pages.
- Draft and send invite emails to the right contact lists.
- Run post-event follow-up: thank-yous, next-step outreach, and feeding warm contacts into the sales conversation.
What you need
- A track record building relationships and generating leads or partnerships, ideally in a professional, diplomatic, or business-events context.
- Comfort working a room and following up with senior people — diplomats, executives, academics — without supervision.
- Strong written outreach.
- Organised enough to run multiple events’ speaker and attendee pipelines at once.
- Literacy in using basic AI assistants (ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude) and a research tool like Perplexity
- Based in Seoul or able to be there reliably on event dates.
Bonus
- An existing network in Seoul’s foreign/professional community.
- Advanced AI and other software tooling such as n8n, Claude Cowork, Kit, mail merge, and/or landing-page builder tools.
- Interest in Korean affairs or the peninsula-watching community.
Reporting
Works with Chad O’Carroll, Jeongmin Kim on event strategy and lead targets; owns execution independently alongside Youngju Seo.
Compensation
2-3.5M KRW per month, depending on experience. Flexi-time, averaging 2.5 days per week.
Existing work authorization for Republic of Korea is vital for this role (ROK working holiday visas may work if you have one)
Location
Seoul office, Republic of Korea. Most of the week is flexible; attendance at events is in person and non-negotiable.
How to Apply
Send the following to [email protected]
- Your CV. What we read it for: events you have run, speakers you have landed, and relationships or leads you have personally generated. Names and numbers, not responsibilities.
- One real example, in plain text (150 words max). Tell us about a specific person you got to say yes — a speaker you booked, a partner you signed, a lead you closed — who was hard to reach. Who were they, what was the obstacle, what did you actually do? We are reading for a real story with specifics only you would know, not a polished narrative.
- A 15-minute task, returned within 48 hours of us sending it. Shortlisted applicants only. We will give you a real upcoming event and three names of people we are considering inviting, and ask: which one would you pursue first, and what is the opening line of your outreach to them? Short. We are testing judgment and instinct, not effort.
