North Korea renames cultural agency to erase ‘national’ identity with South

Removal of reference to Korean ethnicity unity follows Kim Jong Un’s order to get rid of such ‘remnants of the past’

North Korea has renamed a government agency tasked with preserving the country’s culture to drop a reference to a shared Korean ethnic identity, in the latest example of Pyongyang’s abandonment of its reunification policy.

The agency formerly known as the Bureau for the Protection of National Cultural Heritage (민족유산보호국) is now know as the Bureau for the Protection of Historical Heritage (력사유산보호국), according to a state-run Korean Central News Agency report on Sunday.
