South Korea’s agency responsible for military conscription is exploring the idea of requiring male North Korean defectors to complete military service as the number of service members continues to decline. The Military Manpower Administration (MMA) commissioned the state-funded Korea Institute for Defense Analyses (KIDA) to study the ethics in compelling male defectors to serve in the armed forces, as all adult-aged South Korean men are required to do, and to see whether they could adapt to military life, an MMA spokesperson told NK News on Tuesday.
