Washington has renewed a longstanding national emergency declaration toward North Korea for another year, citing the country’s continued nuclear threat and other activities that pose an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the United States.

In a notice published Friday in the Federal Register, the White House said it extended on June 22 the measure on North Korea for another year, which has been in place since 2008.

The declaration allows the U.S. to continue freezing assets, and impose trade and export controls against Pyongyang.
