The leaders of South Korea and the EU issued a joint statement Tuesday expressing “grave concern” over North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, condemning its “illegal military cooperation” with Russia over the war against Ukraine.

The comments were included in a 36-point joint statement following a summit between ROK President Lee Jae Myung, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa in Brussels.

The statement devoted three sections to North Korea and Korean Peninsula peace, with others calling for peace in the Taiwan Strait and the Middle East, and agreements for cooperation across trade,
