Chinese cargo plane flies to North Korea amid reports of imminent Xi visit

Round-trip flight raises possibility of advanced preparations for summit, though Beijing has not confirmed trip

A cargo plane operated by China’s national airline made a round trip to North Korea on Monday, aviation data shows, amid reports that Chinese leader Xi Jinping is planning to visit Pyongyang soon.

The Air China Cargo Boeing 747-4FTF (B-2475) departed Beijing Capital International Airport at around 9:40 a.m. KST and landed at Pyongyang’s Sunan International Airport at 11:30 a.m., according to flight-tracking data from Flightradar24. Air China Cargo is a subsidiary of Air China, the country’s flag carrier.

The South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo was first to reporton the jet’s arrival, raising the possibility that it was linked
