South Korea’s military will conduct its annual Taegeuk command post exercise next week to strengthen crisis management capabilities against North Korean threats, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced Thursday.

The computer simulation-based drill from May 18 to 22 will reflect changes in the security environment and recent trends in warfare, the JCS said in a press release.

The exercise, centered on tabletop war games and computer-simulated scenarios, is among South Korea’s highest-level drills. It focuses on scenarios short of full-scale war, including responses to enemy infiltration, localized provocations, national crisis management and wartime transition procedures.
