State TV report on revisions to traffic law may reflect growing problems from boom in private car ownership

North Korean media this week has promoted a sweeping revision to traffic laws that bans smoking while driving, jaywalking and walking pets without a collar, hinting at growing problems due to a boom in private car ownership and electric bicycles.

The state-run Korean Central Television (KCTV) aired a two-episode segment on the Road Traffic Law during its ongoing “Law and Citizens” (법과 공민) program, featuring a broadcaster and Kim Il Sung University law researcher Rim Myong Hak.

The hosts discussed the provisions of the country’s Road Traffic Law, which appears to have been revised during the Supreme People’s Assembly (SPA)
