The U.S. and South Korea have launched a search for the wreckage of U.S. military aircraft that crashed off the east coast during the 1950-53 Korean War, according to Seoul’s defense ministry, part of a broader push to recover remains from the conflict with North Korea.

The U.S. Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) and the ministry’s Agency for Killed in Action (KIA) Recovery & Identification (MAKRI) will search for the wreckage of two transport aircraft and a fighter jet around Gangneung city and Yangpyeong county, the ministry said in a press release on Monday.

The surveyors are expected to start
