South Korea’s main opposition party has slammed the Lee Jae Myung administration for considering not backing a North Korean human rights resolution, while Seoul’s unification minister defended the move in support of diplomacy with the regime.

“Are the human rights of the North Korean people more important, or is it Kim Jong Un’s feelings that come first?” Song Eon-seok, the floor leader of the People Power Party (PPP), wrote in a Facebook post.

A Blue House decision to table the North Korean human rights resolution at the U.N. would ignore the country’s “dire human rights situation,” he added.
