ROK envoy urges North Korea to comply with nuclear treaty, return to talks

Jeong Yeon-doo reiterates Seoul’s commitment to ‘complete denuclearization’ at high-level meeting in Geneva

Seoul’s nuclear envoy urged North Korea to comply with the landmark international treaty constraining nuclear development and return to dialogue on Monday, reiterating the South’s commitment to peace and denuclearization.

Vice Minister for Diplomatic Strategy and Intelligence Jeong Yeon-doo made the call for Pyongyang to abide by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and U.N. Security Council resolutions during a high-level session of the Conference on Disarmament held Monday in Geneva, according to Seoul’s foreign ministry.

Seoul has consistently pursued “complete denuclearization” of the Korean Peninsula, Jeong said, adding that South Korea will work closely with the U.S. and other
