Almost 200 U.S. military personnel, civilians and their families have filed a lawsuit against British American Tobacco (BAT), alleging that the tobacco giant “knowingly” financed North Korea’s weapons programs through a joint venture and indirectly supported terrorist attacks against Americans.

In a complaint filed before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia on Thursday, the plaintiffs accused the London-headquartered tobacco firm of enabling the development of DPRK-derived missiles used in attacks by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah in 2020 and 2022.
