Seoul said it is discussing with Kyiv the possibility of transferring North Korean prisoners of war captured in Ukraine to South Korea, after two prisoners said in a televised documentary that they wanted to defect.

A South Korean foreign ministry spokesperson told NK News on Tuesday that North Korean soldiers captured by Ukrainian forces are constitutionally considered ROK nationals and that the government will provide support and protection, if requested. 

“We have consistently maintained this clear position since the early stages of the situation, conveying our stance to the Ukrainian side and continuing necessary consultations,” the official said.
