South Korean prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for former President Yoon Suk Yeol over his short-lived declaration of martial law, accusing him of trying to incite a conflict with North Korea to justify his actions.

During the final hearing of Yoon’s trial at the Seoul Central District on Tuesday, special counsel Cho Eun-suk’s team asked the court for the maximum penalty against the former leader for spearheading an “insurrection” to maintain his grip on power.
