US, ROK officials agree to coordinate closely to restart talks with North Korea

Meeting in Washington comes as Trump prepares to visit China next year, after failing to meet Kim Jong Un in October

High-level diplomats from the U.S. and South Korea pledged to maintain close coordination in efforts to restart dialogue with North Korea on Tuesday and discussed follow-up measures for agreements reached at the U.S.-ROK summit in late October.

U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker and South Korea’s First Vice Foreign Minister Park Yoon-joo agreed to communicate closely about DPRK policy during their talks in Washington, including denuclearization and Pyongyang’s “meaningful return to dialogue,” Seoul’s foreign ministry announced Wednesday.
