A Seoul-based court on Friday acquitted five South Korean officials involved in the alleged cover-up of the fatal shooting of a government official by North Korean soldiers during the Moon Jae-in administration in late 2020.

The Seoul Central District Court told NK News on Friday that former National Security Adviser Suh Hoon and four other officials were acquitted due to insufficient evidence against them. 

The defendants were accused of attempting to cover up the Sept. 2020 shooting of South Korean official Lee Dae-jun by North Korean soldiers in the West Sea. Lee reportedlywent missing during a coastal vessel inspection
