A U.N. committee has approved a resolution condemning North Korea’s human rights abuses, with 61 countries including the U.S. and South Korea sponsoring it, the ROK foreign ministry said Thursday. The U.N. General Assembly’s Third Committee adopted the resolution by consensus, and it is scheduled to be finalized at the General Assembly plenary session in December, according to the ministry. The resolution voices concern about North Korea’s “grave human rights situation,” the entrenched culture of impunity and the lack of accountability for violations and abuses. It also encourages diplomatic efforts to improve the human rights situation in the regime and © Korea Risk Group. All rights reserved. |
