North Korean GPS jamming caused an ROK drone crash last year: Lawmaker

Newly released report finds unmanned helicopter fell into Yellow Sea amid ongoing signal disruptions from DPRK side

An unmanned South Korean naval helicopter crashed into the Yellow Sea last year due to North Korean GPS jamming near the maritime border, a lawmaker revealed for the first time on Monday.

According to the office of Kang Dae-sik of the conservative People Power Party, an ROK S-100 drone took off at 1:17 p.m. on April 7, 2024, but lost control and plunged into the sea near Yeonpyeong Island around 2:26 p.m.

Kang’s report, which cites a joint investigation by the Austrian manufacturer Schiebel and Seoul’s Agency for Defense Development, indicates that the crash coincided with a reported GPS jamming
