UN calls for high-level meeting on ‘systematic’ North Korean human rights abuses

General Assembly committee adopts resolution on DPRK human rights for 20th straight year despite Pyongyang’s objections

The U.N. General Assembly condemned North Korea’s human rights abuses for the 20th consecutive year on Wednesday, calling on Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to organize a high-level meeting on the issue.

The U.N. has adopted a resolution on DPRK human rights every year since 2003, and this year’s text is largely the same as last year, demanding that Pyongyang “immediately end the systematic, widespread and grave violations and abuses of human rights.”
