ROK border province indefinitely extends ban on anti-North Korea leafleting

Gyeonggi Province claims prohibition has helped curb DPRK trash balloon launches since it went into effect last month

South Korea’s Gyeonggi Province has indefinitely extended a ban against launching balloons carrying anti-regime leaflets into North Korea, after previously designating 11 border areas as “danger zones” where such activity is prohibited.

The province bordering the DPRK on the western half of the peninsula first implemented the ban on Oct. 16, and at a press conference on Tuesday, vice governor Kim Seong-jung said the province will now extend the ban would be extended indefinitely, stating that it has been effective in curbing North Korean trash balloon launches in retaliation to ROK leafleting.
