French team behind VLC player says it sent ‘Game of Thrones’ to North Korea

Software developers frame balloon launch as protest against regime censorship, but experts dismiss as publicity stunt

Two French software developers behind the widely used VLC media player say they launched balloons carrying movies and TV series toward North Korea last week, despite local authorities’ efforts to crack down on such activity amid heightened inter-Korean tensions.

In an email to NK News, Julien Navas of VideoLAN framed the launch of balloons shaped like traffic cones — the logo of the open-source software — as a protest against the Kim regime’s censorship.
