Seoul airports have suspended flights 20 times due to North Korean balloons

Official data records almost 7 hours of disruptions, which expert says likely increased operational costs

Seoul’s two main airports have shut down their runways 20 times this year due to North Korean trash balloons, amounting to almost seven hours of flight disruptions, according to official data.

The Seoul Regional Aviation Administration stated on Wednesday that the longest disruption took place on June 26, when Incheon International International Airport and Gimpo International Airport suspended flights for 166 minutes after the DPRK launched over 250 balloons.
