South Korean investigators have referred a civilian employee of the Defense Intelligence Command to military prosecutors on charges of leaking sensitive information about military spies and engaging in “espionage related to North Korea.”

The defense ministry announced the transfer of the case from the Counterintelligence Command in a press briefing on Thursday, confirming for the first time that the suspect allegedly aided North Korea.

“We are currently verifying the facts, and as the investigation is ongoing, we need to wait for further details,” defense ministry spokesperson Jeon Ha-kyu said during the briefing.
